Who's Who at Westminster Tutors
Virginia Maguire - Principal
Virginia Maguire read English at UCL, and worked as a lecturer in the English Department of a Thai university for five years. She gained distinction in her MLitt in English Studies from Strathclyde University and published various articles on sociolinguistics and aspects of Thai culture while overseas. Before joining Westminster Tutors Virginia worked as Director of Studies at David Game College. She is also the founder and director of Uniprep, which offers specialist preparation for applications to highly competitive universities and degree courses such as Medicine and Law.
Virginia's mother took her A levels at Westminster Tutors, and it is therefore a personal pleasure for Virginia to continue the College's long tradition of providing excellent teaching which enables students to achieve their academic goals.
Jane Darwin - Senior Tutor & Head of English
Jane Darwin graduated in English from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and also completed her BLitt at Oxford University. Jane has lived in London, Bonn, New York and Brussels, where her husband was working for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She has three children. She has taught English Literature at Westminster Tutors for over 30 years, and in 1993 she became Co-Principal with Peter Brooke. In 2000 she took semi-retirement, but continues to take an active interest in the College, teaching two days a week and acting as Senior Tutor.
Nick Dommett - Director of Studies
Nick distinguishes himself by being our most qualified tutor. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law. Taking a firm interest in climate change research, he moved on to Imperial, being awarded a first in Geology. As well as acting as Director of Studies and teaching Geography at Westminster Tutors, Nick is in the final stages of his PhD at King's College, where he previously obtained distinction in his MA in Environment, Politics and Development.
Dr Kim Gilmore - Head of Science & Examinations Officer
Kim Gilmore completed her BSc and PhD in Biochemistry at Queen Mary College, University of London, and worked as a postdoctoral research assistant in the Department of Immunology, Guy's Hospital. Kim has lectured at university level and has over 20 years' experience teaching biology at secondary schools and tutorial colleges in London. She is also an OCR Examiner for Biology A level. Before joining Westminster Tutors, Kim worked as Director of Studies at Abbey College.
