Principal - Sean Doherty BEd MA MBA

Sean Doherty joined our dynamic Westminster Tutors community in July 2023. Sean’s educational background includes a BEd in Secondary Education from the University of Alberta (Canada), an MA in Science Education with distinction from UCL’s Institute of Education, and an MBA with distinction from Coventry University.

Prior to joining our college, Sean served as an educational senior leader for over 11 years, holding roles as Assistant Principal and Deputy Head of School. With nearly 20 years of teaching experience, Sean has honed his craft as a science teacher, specialising in the physical sciences. In his pursuit of personal and professional growth, Sean is a member of The Institute of Leadership and Management and the Chartered College of Teaching.

Proprietor - David Game MA MPhil


David Game is one of the UK’s foremost education entrepreneurs and philanthropists. A Mathematics scholar at New College, Oxford, he gained an MPhil in Number Theory from UCL. His enthusiasm and energy have helped him build a formidable network of independent schools and colleges both in Britain and abroad.  David Game acquired Westminster Tutors in 1993, and since then it has operated as a division of David Game College. David is a keen linguist and avid art collector: Westminster Tutors doubles up as a gallery exhibiting his varied collection of contemporary paintings. David’s head office is located in the same building as Westminster Tutors, and he is readily available if parents or students wish to see him.

Senior Consultant and Director of Studies - Virginia Maguire BA MA MLitt


Virginia Maguire read English at UCL, and lectured in the English Department of Chiang Mai University, Thailand, for five years. She gained distinction in her MLitt in English Studies from Strathclyde University (by distance) and published various articles on sociolinguistics and aspects of Thai culture. On her return to the UK she took up the role of Director of Studies at David Game College and founded Uniprep, which offered specialist preparation for applications to highly competitive universities and degree courses.

In 2007, she took up the position of Principal at Westminster Tutors, which is part of the David Game College Group, and subsequently completed an MA in Educational Leadership at the UCL Institute of Education. In 2020, Virginia stepped down as Principal and continues in a part-time capacity as Senior Consultant and Director of Studies. Virginia’s commitment to Westminster Tutors is longstanding and unwavering as her own mother took her A levels at Westminster Tutors in the 1960s.

Director of Studies (Academic) - Will Bynoe BA PhD PGCE


Will Bynoe gained his PhD in Philosophy from King’s College London in 2007 and subsequently worked as a research fellow at UCL. He received a PGCE from the Institute of Education in 2013. He joined Westminster Tutors in 2013, where he teaches Philosophy, Religious Studies and Sociology. During this time he has also been Director of Studies at the London Russian Ballet School and has designed educational resources for the British Museum. He has published three philosophy books for a general audience.

College Registrar - Lu Qian MA ACIM Barrister (NP)

Lu Qian studied Economics at university in China before coming to the UK and studying first for a postgraduate diploma in Marketing and then an MA in Anthropology at Goldsmith’s College, London University. She has developed an interest in the law and studied law part time, and then later was called to the bar at Middle Temple. At Westminster Tutors Lu Qian is the person who keeps the show on the road: she is responsible for all timetabling arrangements, arranging tutors and revision courses, as well as fees and invoicing. Lu Qian also teaches Chinese A level.

College Administrator and Exams Officer - Jason Poon BA PGCE


Jason Poon studied German at UCL and then completed his PGCE at the Institute of Education. He is an experienced and well-qualified teacher and an expert administrator. Jason is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the college, including recording attendance, lateness and absence, and for arranging supervised study sessions and mock exams. Jason plays an important role in taking care of the students’ welfare, acting as the first point of contact for both them and their parents. Jason also acts as our Exams Officer and teaches German and French. In addition, Jason is a qualified access arrangements assessor and carries out tests for our students with learning difficulties in order to grant reasonable adjustments for exams.
