The study of sociology involves the observation and explanation of human behaviour alongside political and social change throughout the history of human life. Students learn to develop skills relating to using evidence to support arguments, investigating facts and using deduction.

Paper 1: Education with Methods in Context

  • Assessment of compulsory content 1.1 and 1.2
  • 60 marks
  • 1 hour 30 minutes written paper
  • 50% of total AS level

Paper 2: Research Methods and Topics in Sociology

  • Assessment of compulsory content 2.1 and one topic from option 1
  • 60 marks
  • 1 hour 30 minutes written paper
  • 50% of total AS level

A level

Paper 1: Education with Theory and Methods

  • Assessment of compulsory content 1.1-1.3
  • 80 marks
  • 2 hours written paper
  • 33.3% of total A level

Paper 2: Topics in Sociology

  • Assessment of one topic from each of the two options
  • 80 marks
  • 2 hours written paper
  • 33.3% of total A level

Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods

  • Assessment of compulsory content 3.1 and 3.2

Specification

Although we offer all exam boards as our courses are individually designed, our chosen specification is AQA Sociology (7191 and 7192).
