Remote Learning and Exam Cancellations

Jan 5, 2021

Last night, the Government announced that all secondary schools and colleges in England will be closed for six weeks until half term, the week beginning 15 February. Therefore, all lessons will continue remotely until then. At that point there will be a Government review into Covid rates, with the possibility of further school closures if they remain high.

It has also been announced that GCSE and A levels will be replaced with an alternative exam system. There has been no information regarding the replacements and we will of course provide more information as soon as we hear anything from Ofqual or the Department of Education. It is possible that a Centre Assessed Grade system similar to last year will be used, perhaps with the addition of controlled assessments or external marking. In the meantime, all lessons will carry on as normal in line with the current syllabuses.

This week we will have an online PSHCE session for students to discuss the exam cancellations and talk about any questions they might have. As a college, we will do all we can to continue supporting the students, including personal tutor meetings, online study groups and activities.
