Charlie Walker Returns to Westminster Tutors
We were pleased to welcome explorer, author and speaker Charlie Walker back to Westminster Tutors on Wednesday 23 September, this time to meet a new group of students.
Charlie’s journeys have taken him more than 60,000 miles by foot, bicycle, horse, ski, kayak and canoe, through landscapes ranging from Arctic tundra to the Congolese jungle. His visit offered students the opportunity to hear about these adventures and the challenges involved in travelling through some of the world’s most demanding environments.
There is much in Charlie’s experience that connects with the challenges of sixth form. Working towards a distant goal requires patience, particularly when progress feels slow, or a plan needs to change. Whether preparing for examinations, making university applications or beginning something unfamiliar, students will encounter moments when confidence and motivation are harder to sustain.
An expedition may seem a long way from an A level classroom, but questions about perseverance, adapting to setbacks and taking the next step are familiar in both. We are grateful to Charlie for spending time with us again and bringing a different perspective to college life.
