Introduction

Nestled in the heart of South Kensington, Westminster Tutors is a long-established tutorial college with a rich history and an unwavering commitment to each student’s educational and personal development. Our approach is rooted in bespoke teaching and strong pastoral care — hallmarks of the tutorial model that set us apart.

Founded in 1934 by the visionary Miss Freeston, the college was originally created to support women aspiring to study at Oxford and Cambridge. Miss Freeston was ahead of her time — embracing inclusivity and academic ambition. We continue to honour her legacy by offering individually tailored programmes to young people with a wide range of goals, backgrounds and strengths.

Learning takes place in art-adorned, characterful classrooms, some with views across Chelsea’s rooftops. Teaching is delivered either one-to-one or in very small groups, allowing students to thrive in a nurturing and highly focused academic environment.

Diversity is central to our ethos. We welcome students with a broad range of academic profiles and learning needs, and we work closely with families to ensure every student receives the support they require to succeed.

Our pastoral provision is carefully coordinated and highly responsive. Each student is paired with a personal tutor and supported through a structured mentoring programme that covers study skills, planning and academic self-management. Where appropriate, we also facilitate additional support for students with specific needs, including learning difficulties, neurodivergence or mental health concerns.

Flexibility is another cornerstone of the Westminster Tutors experience. Timetables are individually designed to reflect each student’s availability and commitments. Alongside their academic subjects, students also take part in our weekly Student Discussion programme and receive tailored guidance on UCAS and next steps.
