Economics

Economics is an academically rigorous and rewarding subject at Westminster Tutors, which deals with society’s scarce resources and how they should be allocated. The study of Economics is current and continually changing with the world in which we live. Students learn about how individuals and businesses make decisions, and how policies can be adopted to improve the national and global economy, as well as developing skills such as research, analysis, evaluation and problem-solving.

Assesment

AS level

Paper 1: Introduction to markets and market failure

  • Assessment of topics from across theme 1
  • 80 marks
  • 1 hour 30 minutes written paper
  • 50% of total AS level

Paper 2: The UK economy – performance and policies

  • Assessment of topics from across theme 2
  • 80 marks
  • 1 hour 30 minutes written paper
  • 50% of total AS level

A level

Paper 1: Markets and business behaviour

  • Assessment of topics from across themes 1 and 3
  • 100 marks
  • 2 hours written paper
  • 35% of total A level

Paper 2: The national and global economy

  • Assessment of topics from across themes 2 and 4
  • 100 marks
  • 2 hours written paper
  • 35% of total A level

Paper 3: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics

  • Assessment of topics from across all four themes
  • 100 marks
  • 2 hours written paper
  • 30% of total A level

Specification

Teachers will choose the examination board for students joining in Year 12 based on their expertise and specialist knowledge. For Year 13 and retake students, teachers will continue students’ studies with AQA, Edexcel/Pearson, OCR or WJEC/Eduqas. Please note that we do not offer CIE but can more than map to one of the boards listed.
