Getting a Re-Mark for 2020 A Levels and GCSEs

Aug 6, 2020

This summer there were no A level or GCSE exams and all grades will be awarded via centre assessment. This means that the usual post-results services, such as access to scripts and reviews of marking, will not be applicable. So what options are there for students who are unhappy with their results?

An appeals process will be available for the following scenarios:

  • if a centre believes it made an error when submitting data to the exam boards
  • if a centre believes the exam board used the wrong data to calculate grades
  • if a centre believes the exam board incorrectly communicated grades

Ofqual is currently conducting further work into appeals regarding the standardisation process.
If a student believes their grade is incorrect, they can in the first instance ask their centre to check if an error was made when submitting the grade to the exam board. Students are not able to challenge their grade or rank order through an appeal. However, if a student has evidence of bias or discrimination, they can raise a complaint with the centre and pass on the evidence to the exam board for an investigation into malpractice.

In the event that a student is still unhappy with their grade following an appeals process or a centre’s decision not to appeal, there will be an opportunity to sit A level or GCSE exams in the autumn term or in summer 2021, when the normal reviews of marking and appeals arrangements will be restored. More information on the autumn exams series is available here.

How can Westminster Tutors help me?

We may also be able to offer external students online revision courses for the autumn A level retakes. All of our teaching will be one-to-one and will be adapted according to your needs and the areas you need to catch up on.

The alternative option would be to apply for one of our Sept-June or Jan-June A level retake courses. Our students get fabulous results with last year’s A level retake students improving on average by 1.8 grades and 76% of our students going on to Russell Group or Ivy League universities – we really believe we are the best!
